3D and the PS3

Hi Fogies, we have been absent recently, life just takes over doesn't it. However, we could not let our little discovery pass you by. As we said we are Fogies so we are sometimes a little behind the times but that is the definition of Fogies. We have just embraced gaming, I received a PS3 for my birthday. I must say for those of you out there who feel too old to take up this hobby, man, we recommend it. The world of gaming has come on leaps and bounds since Pac Man and Space Invaders. Now gaming takes you into a virtual world and the graphics are amazing, the world of gaming is trying to reach film quality entertainment levels. I give you, as an example. Assassins Creed by UBIsoft.

Also, I now have a Smart TV. This TV can link to the web, has freesat or freeview, wifi and in our view most importantly of all is 3D. Now I know a lot of you are not sure about 3D. We are not talking red and green glasses here, although glasses are required. Anyhow, get down to your local store and check out the quality of 3D TV, we think it is better than the cinema frankly and have been amazed by it. We watched New Avengers 3D Blue-ray and felt we were actually in the movie. It is rather strange, almost as if watching a play.

Now this is where the bit of info comes in. The PS3, you may not know was re launched in September  in a new model which automatically plays 3D blue-ray and has other additions and is slim line. However, old models of the PS3 can be upgraded with firmware to play 3D so there is no need to get a new model if you already have a PS3. Great eh! Although 3D gaming is now apparently not big right now, we think that multi dimensional media in some form is a thing of the future and sooner or later it will be a standard option for viewing or gaming and personally we are big fans of it.

We found this facinating article from Eurogamer on the issue http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-09-29-sony-on-the-new-ps3-vita-sales-the-decline-of-3d-and-the-threat-of-the-wii-u
